The Gospel of Luke records an amazing story on the day of Christ’s resurrection. Early Easter morning, Mary Magdalene and several other women rushed back to the disciples to report the shocking discovery of an empty tomb. The news rocked the community of believers who, just three days earlier, watched helplessly as the man whom they loved, followed, and believed was the Messiah, died a horrible, violent death.

The same day, two of Jesus’ stunned followers left Jerusalem and headed toward the village of Emmaus. Suddenly, Jesus Himself joined the men, but they did not recognize Him. As He talked with them, they seemed not to want Him to leave their presence. They begged Jesus to stay the night with them, and He agreed. When they sat down to eat, He blessed the bread, broke it, and handed it to the men.

The Bible says that at that moment, the men’s eyes were opened and they realized who Jesus was. Then Jesus disappeared.

Suddenly _everything_ made sense to the two men. They said, “Didn’t our hearts burn within us as he talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?” (Luke 24:32). The two men quickly hurried back to Jerusalem to tell others about their encounter with the risen Lord.

Those with burning hearts walk with Christ, hear His voice, receive counsel and instruction, love Him deeply, believe in His holiness, and are passionate to share Him with others.

My desire is that this guide will lead you on your own Burning Heart journey in which you encounter God in a new and powerful way.

If you want to possess an unquenchable passion to know God and make Him known, then each of the following stories, experiences, and challenges will set your heart on fire for God. I believe you cannot spend time in God’s presence without being ignited in your own soul, so I pray that you will be met with a fresh touch of the Holy Spirit.

In this guide, I will ask you to develop a personal Burning Heart Contract with God out of your own personal convictions and as a joyful response to who He is.

You will be asked to consider designing a written pledge detailing your personal convictions in light of God’s Word on matters of your...

* passion for God and willingness to spend time with Him daily,

  * pledge of purity to a holy lifestyle, and

    * pursuit of God’s plan and purpose in your life.

I will give you options and suggestions on how you might write your contract to God, as well as examples of others who have written one.

Ultimately, the contents of your Burning Hearts Contract in Part Three will be your personal decision. I pray that your contract will reflect a lifelong commitment to be sold out, set apart, and sent out for the living, loving God.
